This is an exciting opportunity to work in Children's and Young Peoples (CYP) Mental Health sector. You will play an important part in a forward-thinking service delivering interventions into schools within the Wigan borough as part of the mental health support team in schools.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering interventions within a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in identified schools and colleges and for the clinical supervision of Education Mental Health Practitioners within the team.
The post-holder must have completed the HEE Postgraduate Diploma in Education Mental Health Practice or Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Wellbeing Practice for children and young people; and have previous consolidated post graduate experience of working with young people with emotional and mental health issues.

In addition, you will have extensive experience of delivering evidenced-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety, low mood and behavioural problems to CYP both individually and in groups.

Main duties of the job

Delivering consultation to school staff in education settings. To
assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions that are agreed
with the child and caregiver in accordance with best practice.
To ensure comprehensive risk assessment of children, young people
and families and that risk management plans are in place and
documented.
To develop and review whole school mental health initiatives
alongside young people, school staff, senior leads and parents.
To provide 1:1 brief intervention for mild to moderate mental health
problems.
To provide low level intervention including behavioural activation,
CBT informed worry and anxiety management interventions, graded
exposure, sleep and stress management, behavioural experiments.
To evaluate the success of intervention at regular intervals using
Routine Outcome Measures (ROMS)
To liaise with schools and other agencies in terms of information
gathering and sharing.
To offer parent consultation, support and advice and parent led CBT
approaches.
To inform local child protection co-ordinator and senior clinicians of
any concerns regarding protection issues.
To gain feedback on experience through session rating scales,
experience of service questionnaires.
To see families/children in the setting most appropriate for effective
and efficient care.
Supervising the clinical practice of Education mental health practitioners.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • •Evidence of continuing professional development in the field of child and adolescent mental health
  • Completion of a CYP improving access to psychological therapies certificate.

Experience

  • The post holder should: •Experience of assessment and delivering evidence based mental health interventions including low intensity cognitive behavioural therapy interventions. •Experience of Multi-disciplinary working within a CAMHS setting •Experience and knowledge of implementing safeguarding procedures for children and adults. •Experience in utilising and interpreting routine outcome measures in practice. •Experience of peer supervision, supervising colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team and consultation in other agency settings.
  • •Experience of supporting young people in an educational setting

knowledge

  • •Understanding of child and adolescent development. •Knowledge of risk assessment and safety planning. •Knowledge of legislation related to children and/or adolescent’s mental health and social care Mental Health Act, Child Protection and Safeguarding of Vulnerable Children etc •Understanding and knowledge of psychological models of brief intervention.
  • •Ability to teach and train others using multi-media materials suitable for presentation within public. •Level of knowledge of research methodology and data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of child and adolescent mental health.

  • •Ability to utilise CYP assessment skills and routine outcome measures effectively including suitability and risk assessments. •Ability to apply therapeutic knowledge to clinical practice. •Effective communication skills in respond to a variety of needs and situation. •Good organisational/time management skills with the ability to manage own workload, organise own time and diary, and meet deadlines. •Ability to work autonomously in the community and use own initiative and make appropriate decisions. •Must demonstrate a commitment to the overall vision of the development of the professional group of mental health practitioners in education settings. •Knowledge and experience of using Microsoft word applications, including PowerPoint and excel.
