Job summary

Balfour Beatty is recruiting a MEI Senior Surveyor for the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project at Redcar and Cleveland. You will lead survey operations within the mechanical scope, manage a team of surveyors, ensure accuracy, data integrity, and deliverables across the construction lifecycle.

You will coordinate with Survey Managers and discipline leads, develop survey methodologies for complex activities, and promote a strong safety culture on site.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in surveying, with strong exposure to mechanical, electrical and instrumentation environments.
• Experience delivering surveys in construction settings with a good understanding of site processes and tolerances.
• Proficient in survey software and IT applications such as 3DR, N4CE, Infinity, SiteScan and StarNet.
• Knowledge of settlement monitoring systems and geodetic principles for construction delivery.
• Familiarity with GNSS networks and modern survey equipment.
• Excellent communication, coordination and team-building skills.
• Ability to plan work, meet deadlines and deliver outputs to programme.
• Strong commitment to health & safety and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Produce and approve survey deliverables: setting out data, models, drawings, reports and as-builts.
• Manage survey equipment with proper calibration, maintenance and storage.
• Lead mentoring of surveyors through coaching and on-site training.
• Contribute to RAMS, daily briefings and safety culture.
• Escalate risks and coordinate with other disciplines to support delivery.
• Ensure survey records and handover-ready information are maintained.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamicMEI Senior Surveyorto contribute to theNet Zero Teesside(NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Assist with the leadership of survey operations within the mechanical remit of works with a team of surveyors to deliver the survey requirements across the construction lifecycle. Allocate, and oversee survey tasks, ensure technical accuracy, maintain equipment and data integrity, and collaborate closely with the Survey Managers, Senior Surveyors, and their equivalent discipline leads.

• Lead and support a section of the survey team, ensuring safe working, high-quality delivery, and effective day-to-day performance
• Plan, prioritise, and coordinate survey activities and resources to meet programme requirements
• Act as one of the technical leads for MEI/MEP survey works, developing methodologies and providing solutions to complex or first-of-type activities
• Maintain a strong understanding of mechanical installation processes, ensuring survey requirements are identified, planned, and prepared in advance
• Attend site for complex, critical, or high-risk activities, providing oversight, guidance, and practical demonstrations where required
• Review and validate survey work completed by surveyors, ensuring consistency, compliance, and adherence to agreed standards and tolerances
• Produce, check, and approve survey deliverables, including setting out data, models, drawings, reports, and as-built information
• Carry out independent verification checks and support quality assurance through design reviews and survey data control
• Manage survey equipment, ensuring compliance with inspection, calibration, maintenance, storage, and defect reporting requirements
• Lead the development and mentoring of surveyors through coaching, training, and on-site demonstrations of best practice
• Contribute to RAMS, daily briefings, hazard identification, and the promotion of a strong safety culture
• Escalate significant risks, issues, and resource constraints to the Engineering Survey Manager and coordinate with other disciplines to support project delivery
• Ensure survey records, verification evidence, and as-built information are maintained in a handover-ready state
• Coordinate survey requirements with construction, engineering, quality, and commissioning teams to support efficient project delivery

The following experience/qualifications are essential:

• Previous experience in surveying, with strong exposure to mechanical, electrical and instrumentation, engineering environments
• Experience delivering surveys in construction settings, with good understanding of site processes and tolerances
• Proficient in IT applications and survey-specific software (e.g. 3DR, N4CE, Infinity, SiteScan, StarNet)
• Knowledge of settlement monitoring systems, methodologies, and associated technologies
• Understanding of geodetic principles and requirements for construction project delivery
• Familiarity with modern survey equipment, GNSS networks, and emerging survey technologies
• Effective communication, coordination, and team-building skills
• Demonstrated ability to plan work, meet deadlines, and deliver outputs to programme
• Strong commitment to Health & Safety and safe working practices
• Experience in MEP‑related construction projects

The following experience/qualifications are desirable but not essential:

• Experience surveying turbines, generators, rotating equipment, or other high‑precision mechanical assets (e.g. power plant components) with tight tolerances is highly desirable
• Membership of a relevant professional body and/or professional qualification (e.g. RICS, CICES)
• SMSTS or SSSTS certification
