Job summary

Balfour Beatty’s NZT project team seeks an Engineering Surveying Technician for the Redcar site. You will support the survey requirements across construction, mentoring junior surveyors, planning control points, and producing as-built drawings from field data.

The role requires familiarity with GNSS, survey software, and a strong safety ethos, with a UK driving license and CSCS card desirable. A competitive package is on offer at Redcar site under the NZT program.

• Valid CSCS card.

Responsibilities

• Assist in mentoring and training less experienced surveyors.
• Assist in planning and installing control points.
• Assist in producing as-built drawings from survey data using survey‑specific software.
• Assist in storing and maintaining survey equipment and consumables.
• Carry out delegated survey activities as part of a team or with minimal supervision.
• Carry out independent survey checks at key construction stages.
• Collect survey field data, process it, and issue deliverables in agreed formats.
• Create and cascade daily site briefings to less experienced surveyors.
• Identify hazards and ensure safe working practices for self and team.
• Perform routine checks and validations on survey equipment.
• Produce and maintain accurate site records.
• Provide site engineers with information derived from design deliverables.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamicEngineering Surveying Technicianto contribute to theNet Zero Teesside(NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

To assist the Engineering Surveying Team in supporting the survey requirements throughout the construction process. This role will involve different survey processes as required to support the site teams.

• Assist in mentoring and training less experienced surveyors
• Assist in planning and installing control points
• Assist in producing as-built drawings from survey data using survey-specific software
• Assist in securely storing and maintaining survey equipment and consumables
• Carry out delegated survey activities as part of a team or with minimal supervision
• Carry out independent survey checks at key construction stages
• Collect survey field data, process it, and issue deliverables in agreed formats
• Create and cascade daily site briefings to less experienced surveyors
• Identify hazards, raise observation cards, and ensure safe working practices for self and team
• Perform routine checks and validations on survey equipment in line with company standards
• Perform supplementary site POWRs for own working activities
• Produce and maintain accurate site records
• Provide site engineers with information derived from design deliverables (schedules, digital models, drawings)

The following experience/qualifications are essential:

• Commitment and punctuality
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
• Familiarity with the latest survey equipment, GNSS networks, and emerging technologies
• Full UK manual driving licence
• Keen to learn and develop within the Survey Team
• Previous experience and knowledge in surveying activities (e.g., control, monitoring, topographical surveys, setting out)
• Proficient in IT applications
• Strong focus on Health & Safety
• Valid CSCS card

The following experience/qualifications are desirable but not essential:

• CAA-recognised drone operator qualifications (GVC and/or A2 CofC)
• Experience surveying on civil engineering projects
• Experience with survey-specific software (e.g., 3DR, N4CE, Infinity, SiteScan)
• First Aid at Work qualification
• Membership of a relevant professional body and/or professional qualification, ideally RICS or CICES
• Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
