Job summary

Balfour Beatty's NZT project is recruiting an Engineering Surveyor for the Redcar and Cleveland site. You will deliver site survey works, topographic surveys, setting out, and as-built records, ensuring tolerances meet design intent and construction needs.

Join a team delivering a first-of-a-kind carbon capture project with strong health and safety standards, using modern surveying tools and GNSS; you'll collaborate with engineers, planners and constructors to support safe, efficient delivery.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in surveying, with strong exposure to civil/mechanical engineering environments.
  • Knowledge of settlement monitoring systems and related technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver site survey works including control, topographic surveys, setting out and construction-stage checks.
  • Produce as-built records, drawings and models aligned with project requirements.
  • Manage survey data storage, backups and version control.
  • Review design information for suitability and identify discrepancies.
  • Liaise with site engineers and project teams to ensure smooth survey information flow.
  • Carry out verification surveys to ensure compliance with design intent and tolerances.
  • Ensure QA/QC requirements and safety procedures are followed.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamicEngineering Surveyorto contribute to theNet Zero Teesside(NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

To deliver engineering survey activities for construction, including setting out, data capture, and verification, ensuring outputs meet defined tolerances and project requirements. As a core member of the Engineering Surveying team, the role is responsible for the accuracy, quality, and integrity of survey outputs, working with engineering and construction teams to support safe and efficient project delivery.

  • Deliver site survey works including control, topographic surveys, setting out and construction-stage checks, ensuring outputs meet required engineering tolerances and specifications
  • Responsible for the collection, processing, and issue of survey data, ensuring outputs meet required tolerances and are accurate, complete, and suitable for construction purposes
  • Produce as-built records, drawings, and models, ensuring outputs are complete, accurate, and aligned with project requirements
  • Ensure the correct use, care, and control of survey equipment, maintaining accuracy through appropriate checks and defect reporting
  • Maintain survey data, ensuring it is stored, backed up, and version-controlled in line with project and organisational requirements
  • Review and check design information prior to construction, ensuring suitability, identifying discrepancies, and raising issues where required
  • Liaise with site engineers and project teams to ensure the effective flow of survey information and support resolution of technical and dimensional queries
  • Undertake verification surveys at key stages, ensuring constructed works comply with design intent and required tolerances
  • Take ownership of survey QA/QC requirements, ensuring compliance with ITPs, hold-points, and completion of quality documentation
  • Ensure survey activities are carried out in accordance with safe systems of work, identifying hazards and supporting a strong safety culture
  • Maintain survey consumables and equipment, ensuring availability and readiness to meet project requirements
  • Liaise with senior surveyors and wider project teams to ensure survey requirements are understood and delivered in line with programme
  • Carry out survey calculations and analysis, including volumetrics, deformation monitoring, and dimensional checks, ensuring outputs support construction and engineering requirements

The following experience/qualifications are essential:

  • Previous experience in surveying, with strong exposure to civil engineering and/or mechanical engineering environments
  • Proficient in IT applications and survey‑specific software (e.g. 3DR, N4CE, Infinity, SiteScan)
  • Knowledge of settlement monitoring systems, methodologies, and associated technologies
  • Understanding of geodetic principles and requirements for construction project delivery
  • Familiarity with modern survey equipment, GNSS networks, and emerging survey technologies
  • Effective communication, coordination, and team‑building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work, meet deadlines, and deliver outputs to programme
  • Strong commitment to Health & Safety and safe working practices
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related discipline, or significant relevant industry experience at an equivalent level

The following experience/qualifications are desirable but not essential:

  • Experience surveying turbines, generators, rotating equipment, or other high-precision mechanical assets (e.g. power plant components) with tight tolerances
  • Working towards or holding membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CICES)
  • Experience in MEI-related construction projects
  • SMSTS or SSSTS certification
  • CAA-recognised drone operator qualifications (GVC and/or A2 CofC)
  • First Aid at Work qualification
