Job summary

The Medicines Management Directorate at Princess of Wales Hospital seeks a registered Pharmacy Technician (Band 5) to join the pharmacy team. You will work in the ward-based, technician-led dispensary and support pharmacists and clinicians to deliver safe medicines management.

We offer excellent in-house training and development to expand the technician role. Welsh language ability is desirable; staff development is strongly encouraged.

Qualifications

• Must hold BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent to register with GPhC.
• Must hold Accredited Checking Technician qualification.
• Willingness to work towards Accredited Medicines Management qualification.
• Welsh language ability is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Dispense and issue prescriptions in the department and at ward level.
• Participate in ward-based medicines management service; undertake drug histories, assess suitability, coordinate supplies on hospital discharge, and counsel patients.
• Assist in induction and supervision of new Pharmacy staff and mentor junior staff.

Job description

The Medicines Management Directorate has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed registered Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team based at the Princess of Wales Hospital. Our Band 5 Technicians are valued members of the multidisciplinary team at ward level and work as ACTs in the automated, Technician led dispensary. You will gain experience across a variety of clinical specialities, working closely with pharmacists and other health care professionals to deliver a high quality, patient focussed medicines management service. We Are Committed To The Development Of The Technician Role And Can Offer Excellent In House Training, where you will be supported and encouraged to further develop yourself.

Responsibilities

• Dispensing and issuing prescriptions both in the department and at ward level
• Participation in the ward based medicines management service undertaking accurate drug histories, assessing patients medication for suitability to use, organising supplies for patients use when in hospital and at discharge and providing advice and counselling to patients ( if not accredited you will be expected to undertake the all Wales qualification to allow you to undertake this aspect of the role)
• Participation in the induction and supervision of new Pharmacy staff and acting as a mentor for junior staff

Requirements

• Applicants must have a BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences Or Equivalent Qualifications to enable them to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• The successful candidate must also hold an Accredited Checking Technician qualification and be in a position to work towards the Accredited Medicines Management qualification.
• The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
