Receptionist - Care Navigator. Rooley Lane Medical Centre, Bradford BD4 7SS.

We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual who works to a high professional standard and is used to working on their own initiative. The successful candidate will be well-organized, hardworking, and able to work accurately to deadlines. Effective time management and flexibility are essential. The position is 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 1.00pm-6.00pm.

Main duties of the job

Job summary:

Receive, assist, and direct patients (care navigation) to access appropriate services or healthcare professionals courteously and efficiently.

The successful candidate should also be computer literate with at least 1 year of experience in a public-facing role.

Our team includes GP Partners, Salaried GPs, trainee Registrars, Practice Nurses, HCA, Nurse Associate, Management staff, and a full Clerical Team.

Reports to: The Management Team

Hours: 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 1.00pm-6.00pm (including a 15-minute paid break)

Job Summary:

Receive, assist, and direct patients (care navigation) to access appropriate services or healthcare professionals courteously and efficiently.

Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and visitors, either in person or via telephone.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of Practice procedures.
  • Work in accordance with written protocols.
  • Ensure an effective reception service for patients and visitors.
  • Handle general inquiries, explain procedures, and book appointments.
  • Use judgment and communication skills to prioritize urgent consultations.
  • Explain Practice arrangements to new patients and handle temporary cover procedures.
  • Manage telephone calls, divert calls, and take messages accurately.
  • Record requests for home visits and refer as necessary.
  • Process repeat prescriptions for collection within 48 hours.
  • Inform patients of charges for private services, accept payments, and issue receipts.
  • Update patient information on the computer system.
  • Keep the waiting area tidy and ensure premises security.
  • Open and close the premises daily, ensuring security and cleanliness.
  • Register new patients promptly, including Temporary Residents.
  • Contact patients for routine screening and handle pathology data administration.
  • Arrange transport for patients as needed.
  • Process incoming faxes and post, and scan hospital letters and correspondence.
  • Order supplies and complete mandatory training.
  • Maintain knowledge of telephone systems and perform additional duties as requested.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Grade C (4) or above GCSEs in Mathematics and English.
  • At least two other GCSEs at grade C (4) or above.
  • Typing/computer qualifications.
  • NVQ in Customer Care or equivalent.
Experience
  • At least 12 months of frontline public-facing work.
  • At least 12 months of reception work and computer use.
  • Experience in a General Practice environment preferred.
  • Experience with SystmOne system preferred.
