Job summary

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking a motivated Medical Engineering Technician (Specialist) to join our Electro Biomedical Engineering (EBME) team based at St Woolos Hospital.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to play a vital role in supporting patient care by ensuring the safe, reliable and effective operation of a wide range of medical devices and equipment used throughout the Health Board.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or related scientific qualification plus training in highly complex specialised medical devices.
• HNC in electrical/electronic engineering with range of training in highly complex specialised medical devices to post graduate level.
• Contemporary knowledge of analogue and digital electronics and fault-finding techniques.
• Contemporary knowledge in the testing of patient connected equipment.
• Experience in repair and maintenance of specialist and complex medical equipment, including service planning and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of a wide range of medical devices.
• Perform acceptance testing, commissioning and decommissioning of medical equipment.
• Provide specialist technical advice and support to clinical and non-clinical staff.
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation in line with departmental procedures.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, guidance and safety standards.
• Participate in equipment investigations and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
• Support training and development of colleagues and users of medical equipment.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking a motivated and highly skilled Medical Engineering Technician (Specialist) to join our Electro Biomedical Engineering (EBME) team based at St Woolos Hospital.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to play a vital role in supporting patient care by ensuring the safe, reliable and effective operation of a wide range of medical devices and equipment used throughout the Health Board.

As a specialist technician, you will provide technical expertise in the maintenance, repair, calibration, testing and management of complex medical equipment. You will work closely with clinical teams, manufacturers and colleagues across the organisation to ensure equipment meets regulatory, safety and performance standards.

Main duties of the job

Qualifications And Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Degree in engineering or related scientific qualification plus a range of training in highly complex specialised medical devices
• HNC in electrical/electronic engineering, supplemented with a range of training in highly complex specialised medical devices to post graduate level.
• Contemporary knowledge of analogue and digital electronics and associated fault-finding techniques.
• Contemporary knowledge in application and use of specialist electro medical equipment.
• Contemporary knowledge in the testing of patient connected equipment.
• Familiarity with Health & Safety at Work legislation.
• Working knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology.
• Specialist knowledge of complex specialist equipment.
• Sound grasp of medical device management guidance.
• Sound grasp of medical device management database/s.
• Experience in repair and maintenance of specialist and/or complex medical equipment, organising and scheduling a maintenance and repair service, IT systems and Microsoft Office, delivering user training for medical equipment, working within a quality system, creating test and calibration checklists and procedures and service development and transition.

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working with highly complex equipment (i.e. an anaesthetic machines, ventilators, resuscitative, ECG recorders, incubators)
