The Medical Assistant is essential during the patient visit, accompanying the dermatologist in the room and promoting a friendly and efficient environment for patients, staff, and dermatologists.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Rooming patients and documenting all vital information
• Scribing information for the dermatologist
• Providing post-op wound care to patients
• Drawing blood and suture removal
• Cleaning and stocking the exam rooms
• Scheduling patient appointments

Assisting the dermatologist with procedures such as:

• Surgical photographs
• Biopsies – punch, DIF, and shave
• Excision
• Electrodessication and curettage

Additional procedures include:

• Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery
• Phototherapy
• Injections
• KOH preps
• Trichograms
• Tzank preps
• Dermabrasion
• Patch testing
• Blue light

Qualifications

Education

• Minimum post-high-school education in a medical support field: Certified Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse. Non-Certified Medical Assistants must complete the Forefront Derm Tech certification within the prescribed time and maintain certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• 1-2 years of recent experience in a medical office in a similar capacity preferred
• Current certifications, licenses, and registrations required
• Willingness to travel to other clinic locations as needed
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office and EMR systems
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
