Job description

Catch22 exists to help build a society where everyone has a good place to live, good people around them, and a fulfilling purpose. We call these our '3Ps'. We have been at the heart of public service delivery for over 200 years, designing and delivering services that transform disadvantaged lives and build stronger communities.

We achieve this in two ways. Firstly, we improve lives on the frontline through delivery of public services. Secondly, we use our knowledge to change 'the system', to fix the complex web that can trap and disempower those it was set up to help. With the heart of a charity and the mindset of a business, we are uniquely placed to deliver on this challenging agenda.

Our Community Mediation Service aims to provide a service that helps people find long lasting, realistic solutions to the conflicts affecting their lives and to support public services and local authorities by stopping disputes from escalating and reducing the need for enforcement action. We are a person centred service that aims to give people the best possible chance of good outcomes and have to be flexible and creative in the way we work.

Job Description

The post holder will support the Mediation Coordinator in delivering an independent and impartial community mediation service. This includes directly providing mediation and conflict coaching, carrying out administrative responsibilities, and working collaboratively with community-based multi‑agency partners. You will be part of a small, supportive team – passionate about the potential of mediation and committed to helping as many people as possible in ways that best meet their needs. You will:

  • Deliver mediation and conflict coaching to local communities as a means of resolving disputes and supporting individuals experiencing conflict
  • Conduct thorough assessments of disputes to understand underlying issues and support people to find appropriate and realistic resolutions and coping strategies
  • Keep records in compliance with our organisational needs, maintaining confidentiality and sharing appropriate information with referrers in line with our code of practice.
  • Have regular supervision meetings with the Mediation Coordinator
  • Collect feedback on our service to help us evaluate and demonstrate our impact
  • Participate in training opportunities and organisational events
  • Promote the ethos and values of the Community Mediation Service by highlighting the benefits of mediation, supporting referring agencies to engage with the service, and working with partners including police, local authorities and housing associations.
  • Understand your safeguarding responsibilities and use sound judgement to assess risk and identify issues requiring escalation, following internal and external safeguarding procedures.
  • Live in Norfolk or Suffolk and be able to travel to the areas the service covers
