Job description

The British Academy, the UK's national body for the humanities and social sciences, is seeking a Media & PR Officer to join the Communications and Marketing department. The role aims to increase exposure and generate media coverage about the Academy's public events, policy programmes, funded research, and subject advocacy.

The Role
  1. Collaborate with colleagues to generate engaging news stories and pitch them to national, regional, broadcast, and higher education media.
  2. Plan, write, and edit stories weekly about public events, higher education, public policy, Fellowship, and research findings.
  3. Lead media stories from start to finish, including identifying newsworthy stories, creating communication plans, and delivering media coverage and social media content.
  4. Build the Academy's profile and increase public awareness of the humanities and social sciences.
  5. Respond quickly to media inquiries, using sound judgment to address various topics.
  6. Source and coach media spokespeople as needed.
  7. Consume daily news, think creatively, and proactively suggest story angles and process improvements.
