Job summary

The University of Sheffield is offering a Mechanical Technician Apprentice position on-site within the Engineering & Maintenance Team. This structured program combines hands-on maintenance work with formal learning, progressing towards an NVQ level 3 qualification.

Starting October 2026, you will gain experience across planned and reactive maintenance to support world-class facilities. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will build essential skills, work as part of a team, and be involved

Qualifications

• GCSE Grade A-C (9-4) in Maths or English or equivalent functional skills.
• Commitment to completing the apprenticeship programme and related training.
• Full valid UK driving licence.
• Demonstrate effective two-way communication and ability to work in a team.
• A standard DBS check will be required and eligibility to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive Mechanical maintenance under supervision.
• Assist with the maintenance of university estate and equipment.
• Follow health and safety guidelines and company procedures.
• Attend training and complete off-the-job learning as part of the apprenticeship.
• Support colleagues and customers by providing high-quality service.
