Job summary

Gap Technical Ltd is recruiting a Mechanical Technician for a Widnes facility. The role is days-only, based on site, with a UK salary of £40,160 per year. The successful candidate will design, maintain and install mechanical equipment, perform preventive maintenance and diagnose faults, with on-call and occasional overtime.

Training in confined space and first aid is expected as part of the role. Applicants should have an apprenticeship or NVQ3/C&G in mechanical discipline, strong computer

Qualifications

• Must hold apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications in a Mechanical discipline (NVQ level 3 or C&G Apprenticeship).
• Good computer skills are essential.
• Experience with preventive maintenance software is an advantage.
• Working knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act is essential.
• Lean Manufacturing knowledge (5S, Kaizen & 7 wastes) advantageous.
• Experience in rotating equipment overhauls, hydraulics/pneumatics and pipework.

Responsibilities

• Design, select, maintain and install mechanical equipment.
• Carry out mechanical preventive maintenance.
• Fault location, diagnosis and repair.
• Work may require confined space and First Aid training.
• Participate in site Emergency Response team and improvement initiatives.

gap technical are proud to be representing this global manufacturing business in their search for a Mechanical Fitter / Technician / Craftsman to work at their facility based near Widnes.

Performance Objectives

• Design, select, maintain and install mechanical equipment
• Carry out mechanical preventive maintenance
• Fault location / diagnosis / repair
• Will be expected to undertake confined space training
• Will be expected to undertake First Aid training
• Will be expected to participate in the site Emergency Response team
• Will be expected to participate in various improvement initiatives
• Overtime will be available after 40 hours have been worked in a week, overtime premium rates are paid at time and a half on Monday to Saturday and double time on Sundays.
• The candidate would be expected to be on an on-call rota (one week in four) covering critical breakdowns.

Person Specification

• Must hold apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications in a Mechanical discipline i.e. NVQ level 3 or C&G Apprenticeship. Further relevant qualifications would be advantageous
• Good computer skills are essential.
• Experience of using preventive maintenance software is an advantage.
• A working knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act is essential
• Experience in the chemical industry is not vital but a manufacturing background would be advantageous
• Lean Manufacturing knowledge (5S, Kaizen & 7 wastes) advantageous
• Metal and/or plastic fabrication.
• Rotating equipment overhauls
• Hydraulic/pneumatics systems
• Pipework and flange making/breaking
• Knowledge of steam boiler and air compressor plant
