Reed is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician for a fast-paced manufacturing site in the Essex area. You will be responsible for reactive, planned and predictive maintenance across a busy facility, ensuring equipment reliability and safety while supporting production targets.

The role involves rotating shifts (earlies, lates and nights) with a focus on fault diagnosis, preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in manufacturing, production, FMCG, processing or industrial environments.
• Strong fault-finding and mechanical maintenance skills.
• Experience with CMMS is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned, preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical equipment.
• Diagnose faults and repair production machinery to minimize downtime.
• Install and refurbish mechanical equipment as required by production needs.
• Support production with efficient breakdown response and safe work practices.
• Use CMMS to raise and close work orders and track maintenance tasks.
• Contribute to equipment reliability reviews and asset health assessments.
• Assist with risk assessments and safe systems of work.

Mechanical Technician

Essex Area Rotating Shifts £50,549 + £5,414 Shift Allowance

Are you an experienced Mechanical Technician looking for a role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment where reliability, engineering excellence and teamwork are valued?

We are recruiting for a Mechanical Technician to join an established maintenance team responsible for keeping critical production and packaging operations running efficiently. This is a hands-on role requiring strong fault-finding ability, preventative maintenance expertise and a proactive approach to engineering standards.

The Role

You will be responsible for delivering reactive, planned and predictive maintenance across a busy manufacturing facility, ensuring equipment reliability, safety and production performance remain at the highest standards.

• Planned preventative maintenance of mechanical equipment
• Fault diagnosis and repair of production machinery
• Installation and refurbishment of mechanical equipment
• Supporting production through efficient breakdown response
• Using a CMMS system to raise and close work orders
• Participating in equipment reliability and asset health reviews
• Supporting risk assessments and safe systems of work
• Mentoring apprentices and less experienced engineers where required
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the site

What We're Looking For

We're keen to speak with candidates who have:

• A Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
• Proven experience within a manufacturing, production, FMCG, processing or industrial environment
• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills
• Experience working in fast-paced operational environments
• A proactive and safety-focused mindset
• Welding and machining experience would be advantageous
• Experience using maintenance management systems (CMMS) desirable
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team

Success in this role will come from not only having the technical capability but also the attitude to thrive in a demanding environment where quality, safety and production standards are paramount.

Shift Pattern

Monday to Friday rotating shifts including:

• Earlies
• Lates
• Nights

The role includes a contractual requirement to work nights when business needs require. Although night shifts are expected to be less frequent than early and late shifts, flexibility is essential.
