Job description

AD Energy Recruitment is partnering with a growing and innovative renewable energy business to recruit a Mechanical Supervisor to support anaerobic digestion and resource recovery facilities across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical professional who enjoys leading from the front, coordinating site activities, mentoring engineers, and ensuring mechanical works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Whether you already have experience within biogas and anaerobic digestion or come from a wider industrial, utilities, process plant, manufacturing, or service engineering background, this role offers the opportunity to develop specialist expertise within one of the fastest-growing sectors in renewable energy.

The Role

As a Mechanical Supervisor, you will play a key role in overseeing mechanical maintenance, installation, commissioning, and repair activities across a portfolio of renewable energy facilities.

Working closely with site teams, contractors, and service engineers, you will ensure works are planned effectively, completed safely, and delivered in line with operational and customer expectations.

This is a hands‑on leadership role that combines technical expertise with site coordination and team supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate mechanical maintenance, repair, and installation activities across multiple sites.
  • Lead and support field engineers and contractors during planned and reactive maintenance works.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with RAMS, site procedures, and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults across plant equipment, pipework, and process systems.
  • Oversee maintenance activities on pumps, motors, submersible mixers, heat exchangers, conveyors, valves, gas systems, and associated plant assets.
  • Support commissioning, shutdowns, upgrades, and optimisation projects.
  • Monitor work quality, site performance, and compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and commissioning documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve plant reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Act as a key point of contact between site teams, customers, and management.
What We’re Looking For
  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience within a mechanical maintenance, service, or supervisory role.
  • Previous experience leading teams, coordinating contractors, or supervising site activities.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and maintenance capabilities.
  • Excellent understanding of Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), Risk Assessments, and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across various locations.
  • A proactive, hands‑on approach with strong leadership qualities.
  • Anaerobic digestion, biogas, biomethane, wastewater, or renewable energy experience.
  • Process plant, utilities, industrial manufacturing, or M&E environments.
  • Mechanical fitting background.
  • PE pipework and electrofusion competency.
  • PASMA certification.
  • CompEx Mechanical (Ex11).
  • Welding experience.
  • Experience supervising commissioning or installation projects.
What’s on Offer
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Opportunity to work at the forefront of renewable energy and resource recovery.
  • Career development within a rapidly growing sector.
  • A varied role combining leadership, technical problem‑solving, and hands‑on engineering.

If you’re an experienced mechanical engineer or supervisor looking for your next challenge within the renewable energy sector, we’d love to hear from you.
