Mechanical Project Manager - Dartford

Our client has been established for 50 years and is a leading provider of mechanical and electrical engineering services, working on projects up to £10 million in value across various sectors such as MOD, defense, Commercial and education.

Role:

The Mechanical Project Manager will oversee mechanical / M&E engineering projects, ensuring quality delivery within budget and timeline. Key responsibilities include managing teams, coordinating with stakeholders, and upholding our client's standards for engineering excellence.

Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Management:

  • Lead mechanical projects from pre-construction through to handover, ensuring timely delivery, within scope, and on budget.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including scheduling, resource allocation, and cost management.
  • Coordinate with clients, main contractors, architects, and other stakeholders to define project requirements and deliverables.
  • Attend project meetings to provide progress updates, resolve issues, and adapt plans as necessary.

Team Leadership:

  • Oversee the performance of on-site labour and subcontractors, ensuring work meets quality, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Ensure effective team collaboration between mechanical engineers, site managers, and procurement teams.
  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and quality.

Technical Oversight:

  • Review mechanical designs, technical specifications, and ensure compliance with M&E standards and relevant regulations.
  • Manage material procurement and ensure that all equipment and components meet project specifications.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to monitor progress, address challenges, and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in coordination with engineering teams.

Financial Control:

  • Manage project budgets, track financial performance, and deliver accurate cost reports to stakeholders.
  • Ensure efficient procurement of materials and services, minimizing project costs without compromising quality.
  • Identify and manage project risks, implementing cost-effective solutions and avoiding unnecessary expenses.

Health, Safety & Compliance:

  • Enforce all health and safety protocols on-site, ensuring full compliance with company and regulatory safety standards (e.g., HSE regulations).
  • Conduct safety audits and promote a culture of safe work practices among all site personnel.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates, managing expectations, and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients and key stakeholders to secure repeat business.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management within the mechanical or M&E contracting sector.
  • Proven track record of managing projects from pre-con to handover.
  • Experience managing multi-million-pound budgets and ensuring profitable project delivery.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Plumbing or higher
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or equivalent safety certification.
  • Full UK driving license.
