Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering activities for capital expenditure and plant improvement projects.
  • Develop engineering specifications, project scopes, risk assessments, MOC docs and HAZOP studies.
  • Prepare project governance plans, progress reports and stakeholder updates.
  • Manage procurement processes including tender docs, contractor selection, contracts and delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, machinery regulations, environmental requirements and Tata Steel standards.
  • Support manufacturing and engineering teams with mechanical expertise.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, risks and resources for successful outcomes.
  • Liaise with internal/external stakeholders, suppliers and contractors.
  • Promote high standards of Health, Safety, Environmental and Process Safety performance.

We are looking for a talented Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Engineering Projects team at Shotton Works, supporting the ongoing development and enhancement of our world-class manufacturing facilities.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering capital investment projects, process improvements, and plant enhancement schemes that directly support the business strategy of Tata Steel Colors.

What You'll Do

As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will manage and support projects throughout their full lifecycle – from concept development and design through to procurement, installation, commissioning, and final handover.

  • Leading mechanical engineering activities associated with capital expenditure and plant improvement projects.
  • Developing engineering specifications, project scopes, risk assessments, Management of Change (MOC) documentation, and HAZOP studies.
  • Preparing project governance structures, plans, progress reports, and stakeholder updates in line with recognised project management methodologies.
  • Managing the procurement process, including tender documentation, contractor selection, contract placement, and project delivery.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including CDM Regulations, Supply of Machinery Regulations, environmental requirements, and Tata Steel engineering standards.
  • Supporting manufacturing and engineering teams with specialist mechanical engineering expertise.
  • Managing project budgets, schedules, risks, and resources to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders, suppliers, contractors, consultants, and external authorities.
  • Promoting and maintaining the highest standards of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Process Safety performance.
What You Will Have
Essential
  • Degree, HND, or HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering, project engineering, or project delivery within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across all levels of an organisation.
  • Strong decision-making and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • A commitment to high standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental performance.
Desirable
  • Prince2 or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Experience planning and delivering capital projects.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and their application.
  • Understanding of SAP budgetary controls, capital accounts, and capital approval processes.
  • Experience working with continuous strip coating lines, metallic and painted products, cold rolling, or finishing operations.
  • Experience managing contractors and external suppliers.
  • Experience of solid modelling software and the principles of Engineering design.
