Job summary

Tata Steel UK is seeking a Warehouse and Crane Engineer based in Shotton to lead the Crane Maintenance Team. The role focuses on reliability, safety and cost-effective maintenance of crane assets and warehouse equipment, with involvement in capital projects and long-term asset modernisation.

The successful candidate will manage maintenance activities, develop the team, and ensure compliance with safety standards while supporting engineering strategy and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship.
  • HNC/HND or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of overhead crane maintenance and associated lifting equipment.
  • Demonstrable experience in either mechanical or electrical engineering maintenance.
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance principles and asset management processes.
  • Experience using SAP or a similar CMMS.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safe, effective maintenance of overhead cranes, lifting equipment and associated systems to maximise reliability and availability.
  • Plan, prioritise and manage maintenance activities through SAP, including work orders, reporting and backlog control.
  • Lead, coach and develop the Crane Maintenance Team, supporting recruitment, training and succession planning.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, Isolation & Immobilisation procedures, statutory requirements and engineering best practice.
  • Drive continuous improvement, asset modernisation projects and long-term maintenance strategies.
  • Manage budgets, spare parts, shutdown activities and resource planning in collaboration with production and engineering teams.

Salary: £46,000 – £52,462 + Quarterly Bonus + Annualised Hours + Benefits

What you will do:

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Manufacturing Engineering Department for a Warehouse and Crane Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical). This is a key leadership role responsible for the reliability, maintenance, and development of the site's overhead crane assets and associated warehouse equipment. The successful candidate will lead the Crane Maintenance Team, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, equipment reliability, and cost-effective maintenance performance. The role offers the opportunity to influence engineering strategy, manage budgets, support capital investment projects, and contribute to the long-term modernisation of critical plant assets

Key Responsibilities

Desirable
  • Knowledge of Shotton Works processes and overhead crane installations.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets and maintenance contracts.
  • Experience leading engineering improvement or capital projects.
  • Familiarity with risk management and reliability-centred maintenance techniques.
