Job summary

Tata Steel UK is seeking a Shift Mechanical Fitter to join our engineering team in Corby. The role involves rotating shifts (days, lates, nights) and working within a multi-skilled shift team to maintain plant machinery and ensure safe, reliable operation.

Applicants should have apprentice training or Level 3 qualifications (BTEC/C&G/NVQ). Experience with MIG/STICK welding, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and SAP PM is valuable. Contact georgia.fryer@tatasteeleurope.com for details.

Responsibilities

  • Record all maintenance in the MMS system.
  • Contribute to reducing life-cycle costs of assets.

Job Title: Shift Mechanical Fitter

Location: Corby (NN17)

Salary: Salary £39,484 - £40,351 (inclusive of shift premium)

What you will do

Working as part of a multi-skilled shift team, we are looking for someone to carryout PPM activities alongside reactive maintenance activities in a busy manufacturing environment.

The post holder will be expected to maintain maximum efficiency of machinery whilst maintaining the highest Health & Safety standards, ensuring all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance to the site maintenance procedures.

Other responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to:

  • Experience working in a heavy industrial environment would be advantageous.
  • The role will involve working as part of a team and sometimes under one's own initiative. The candidate should be a good team player who is also comfortable and capable to work by themselves when required.
  • Performing job specific personal risk assessments to ensure safety during engineering maintenance activities.
  • Uphold HSE standards in compliance with site procedures.
  • Managing engineering spares and inventory to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Prepare and carryout mechanical maintenance activities across plant
  • Ensure all engineering activities preventive, corrective, breakdown and shutdown maintenance are recorded in the correct manner using the site MMS
  • Interpreting mechanical drawings
  • Contribute to decreasing both the total life cycle cost of assets and the cost of maintenance
  • Ensure that all assets within the designated areas of responsibility are maintained to high engineering standards, which consistently contribute to achieving business objectives
  • Identify and implement plant area improvement activities that support the continuous improvement of plant availability, safety, the environment and asset performance
What you will need

This role is for a mechanical fitter to work in a heavy industrial environment working a shift pattern which consists of a week of days, a week of lates and a week of night shifts on a rotating basis Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will work in an engineering team comprising of both mechanical and electrical engineers.

The candidate should be either apprentice trained or have a recognised level 3 qualification such as a BTEC, C+G or NVQ Level 3.

We're also keen to hear from individuals who have:

  • Experience using both MIG and stick welding apparatus.
  • Bench fitting. Building up and overhauling plant critical spares.
  • Knowledge and experience working on pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • The candidate will have experience of both reactive and preventative maintenance. In this role the candidate will be split between these activities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience working on cylinders, chains, sprockets, pumps, bearings, roll conveyors etc.
  • Experience of working with computerized maintenance management systems (SAP PM experience would be ideal)
  • Basic computer literacy
