Job summary

AMOT in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, seeks a Mechanical Product Engineer to join the engineering team. You will support and enhance established product ranges, implement engineering changes, and resolve technical issues to maintain robustness and compliance in a hands-on, cross-functional environment.

You will collaborate with manufacturing, quality and supply chain, driving improvements and customer-driven modifications while producing detailed drawings, 2D/3D models, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years engineering experience.
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Proficient 2D drafting with AutoCAD and GD&T to BS:8888.
  • Strong 3D solid modelling experience.
  • Knowledge of UK/EU/US product design standards and certification requirements.
  • Experience with design/document control and revision management.
  • Experience in DFMEA/PFMEA and product verification.

Responsibilities

  • Complete engineering design and drafting to support existing AMOT product ranges as part of continuous improvement and business support.
  • Provide technical engineering support across production, planning/purchasing and quality/manufacturing teams.
  • Develop enhancements or customisations to existing products per customer requirements and opportunities.
  • Create and manage product manuals, technical documentation and release materials for production.
  • Follow quality procedures and internal design standards; ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Maintain AMOT Business and Document Management system accurately.
  • Respond to change productively and undertake other duties as required.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Mechanical Product Engineer to join our Engineering team in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.

As part of our Engineering team, you will focus on the ongoing support, modification and enhancement of established product ranges. You will play a central role in progressing engineering changes, resolving technical issues and ensuring designs remain robust, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Working closely with manufacturing, quality and supply chain teams, you will help address real‑world engineering challenges – whether that’s responding to production queries, refining designs, or implementing customer‑driven modifications. The role offers variety, responsibility and the chance to make tangible improvements within a structured engineering environment.

What you'll be responsible for:

As part of the AMOT engineering group, you'll undertake a variety of engineering tasks using knowledge, experience, initiative, and independent judgement to support global business demands.

  • Complete engineering design and drafting work to support existing AMOT product ranges, as part of continuous improvement and business support initiatives.
  • Support local Product Value Streams to deliver best‑practice, high‑quality manufacturing by providing technical engineering support as part of a cross‑functional team, including production, planning/purchasing and quality/manufacturing engineering departments.
  • Following best engineering practice, develop enhancements and/or customisations to existing products, as driven by customer requirements and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:

1. Complete incoming engineering support tasks based on business priorities, typically including:

  • Completion of part/product design and drafting changes required for incoming Engineering Change Requests (ECR).
  • Creation of Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
  • Execution of Engineering Change Orders (ECO) in the business ERP system.

2. Collaborate effectively with other departments as part of the Product Value Stream, providing technical engineering support to the group. Examples of support include:

  • Technical queries arising from suppliers or inhouse manufacturing, which may require existing design/drawing review and update, following the engineering change process as above.
  • Technical analysis of component parts and assemblies against engineering drawings and standards.
  • Product application support.

3. In support of customer product/project specification requirements, complete enhancement or customisation projects on the existing product portfolio, which may include:

  • Reviewing customer requirements and generating a product specification.
  • The creation and management of a project plan, providing global visibility.
  • Detailed design of piece‑parts and assemblies.
  • Detailed 2D drawings, 3D models and technical documentation.
  • Prototype development and test where necessary.
  • Liaison with internal departments, suppliers, and customers.
  • Product release to production.

4. Create manuals, instruction sheets and other technical documentation for products to include procedures, limitations of use, maintenance, spares, warnings, overviews and any other relevant or necessary information.

5. Follow all defined internal quality procedures, and internal design standards. Ensure that designed parts/products comply with all compulsory standards applicable to the product and country of sale.

6. Accurately maintain the AMOT Business and Document Management system as required.

7. Follow all Company Safety Policies and Procedures.

8. Respond to change productively and undertake any other assigned duties as required.

What we're looking for

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Professionally qualified to a minimum of HNC/HND standard in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant previous engineering experience.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of 2D drafting using Autodesk AutoCAD, including Geometric Dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to BS:8888.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of 3D solid part and assembly modelling, using 3D design software.
  • Knowledge of document creation and revision control using document management software.
  • Knowledge of UK, EU and US product design and certification standards.
  • Experienced in the design/engineering maintenance of component parts, subassemblies and end products.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel. Powerpoint.
