Job summary

A leading chemical manufacturing site in West Yorkshire is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to join its engineering team. This hands-on role requires strong mechanical expertise, plus experience in hazardous environments and a commitment to high safety and operational standards.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will maintain, repair, and install mechanical equipment across the site, ensuring plant reliability and efficiency while working with the wider engineering team.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a chemical, process, or heavy industrial environment.
• Knowledge of hazardous area working practices.
• Experience under COMAH regulations or similar high-hazard industries.
• Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
• Experience using CMMS systems for maintenance planning and reporting.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
• Proactive, flexible, and able to respond to breakdowns and operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning of mechanical plant equipment.
• Ensure work complies with health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
• Use CMMS to manage, record, and complete maintenance tasks.
• Diagnose faults, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions.
• Support planned shutdowns, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work within permit-to-work systems with risk assessments and isolations.
• Assist with project work including installation, commissioning, and handover.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and promote safety culture.
• Report defects, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
• Support and mentor colleagues where required.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with strong mechanical expertise, experience in hazardous environments, and a commitment to high safety and operational standards.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing a wide range of mechanical equipment across the site. You’ll play a key role in ensuring plant reliability, safety, and efficiency, working both independently and alongside the wider engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning of mechanical plant equipment
• Ensure all work complies with health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements
• Use CMMS systems to manage, record, and complete maintenance tasks
