Adepto Technical Recruitment Ltd is recruiting a Mechanical Technician for a chemical manufacturing site in Sunderland. The role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and installing mechanical plant equipment with emphasis on safety and compliance in a high-hazard environment.

You will work under a structured safety regime, using CMMS to plan tasks, and participate in shutdowns and projects to improve plant reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a chemical, process, or heavy industrial environment.
• Knowledge of hazardous area working practices (CompEx Mechanical preferred).
• Experience working under COMAH regulations or similar high-hazard industries.
• Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
• Experience using CMMS systems for maintenance planning and reporting.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
• Proactive, flexible, and able to respond to breakdowns and operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning of mechanical plant equipment
• Ensure all work complies with health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements
• Use CMMS systems to manage, record, and complete maintenance tasks
• Diagnose faults, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions
• Support planned shutdowns, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Work within permit‑to‑work systems, ensuring proper risk assessments and isolations are in place
• Assist with project work, including installation, commissioning, and handover of new equipment
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and promote a positive safety culture
• Report defects, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly
• Support and mentor colleagues where required

Mechanical Technician - Chemical Manufacturing (Sunderland)

A leading chemical manufacturing site in Sunderland is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to join its engineering team. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with strong mechanical expertise, experience in hazardous environments, and a commitment to high safety and operational standards.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing a wide range of mechanical equipment across the site. You'll play a key role in ensuring plant reliability, safety, and efficiency, working both independently and alongside the wider engineering team.
