Job Purpose and Impact

Location Manchester, UK (M17 1PA) - Permanent full time, days based role Monday-Friday

Cargill’s Manchester plant is a production facility which is key to the UK food, spirit, pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetics industries. The plant and offices located in Manchester are part of the Cargill starches and sweeteners business which produces sweeteners, wheat protein and alcohol for customers in the confectionery, brewing, drink, dairy, farming and bakery sectors.

We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our high-performing maintenance team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our plant operations.

In this role, you'll be responsible for mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of plant equipment. You’ll also support contractor supervision, safety permitting, and continuous improvement initiatives. If you're mechanically focused with some multi-skilled experience and a passion for problem-solving, this could be the perfect role for you!

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform reactive, preventative, and predictive maintenance on mechanical equipment in a safe, timely, and efficient manner
  • Complete maintenance tasks using the Maintenance & Reliability Management System
  • Work closely with production teams to troubleshoot and prevent equipment failures
  • Issue safety permits and supervise contractor activity when required, support and promote behavioural safety
  • Propose improvements to job plans, procedures, and maintenance strategies
  • The role may require support to other areas/ departments on the Manchester site when needed
Qualifications
  • Served recognised Mechanical or Multi Skilled Apprenticeship /HNC or equivalent qualification in Maintenance Engineering
  • Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably SAP
  • Basic electrical skills
  • Experience with bulk handling equipment such as conveyors, elevators
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication, teamwork skills and safety awareness
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles (preferred)
  • Experience working on a Chemical plant is desirable, other heavy engineering experience would also be actively considered #LI-TG1
