Job summary

Tata Steel Llanwern is seeking a Mechanical Craft Team Member to join the Utilities department on a shift basis in Newport. The role involves maintenance across steam, gas, water, compressed air, and HV electrical infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on safety and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will have a time-served apprenticeship (NVQ3 Mechanical) and 2+ years in a heavy industrial setting, plus UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Time served apprenticeship and NVQ3 in Mechanical Engineering are required.
• 2+ years of experience in a Heavy Industrial environment is essential.
• UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle are required.
• Good understanding of electrical principles and fluid power systems is expected.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical maintenance across the energy plant.
• Respond to engineering, safety and quality issues to minimise downtime.
• Support the shift Control Engineer with reactive and preventative maintenance activities.
• Ensure all work complies with H&S requirements, PTW procedures and high engineering standards.
• Develop understanding of fluid power and electrical systems; assist with HV and fluid power tasks after training.
• Becoming authorised to issue permits and supervising Tata or contract personnel as needed.
• Adhere to strict UK Health and Safety legislation at all times.
• Identify areas for improvement and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Tata Steel Llanwern might be looking for you! The opportunity for a Mechanical Craftsperson to work on a shift basis within their Utilities department has arisen. The successful applicant will be a strong support to the Shift Control Engineer and work across steam, gas, water, compressed air and HV electrical infrastructure.

Llanwern works produce strip steel for the UK and EU via a pickle line and cold mill. They are also a leading producer in galvanised steel with sustainability at the forefront of all that they do.

On this occasion, only applicants with Full Right to work in the UK already in place can be considered

Mechanical Craft Team Member

Hours:

37.5 hours per week (shifts are a combination of days and nights so the need for flexibility is imperative)

£41342 per annum (This includes a 30% shift allowance)

Start:

ASAP but pending the successful result of a medical assessment. (This does include a drug and alcohol test)

Time served apprenticeship and NVQ3 (Mechanical Engineering)

Previous experience (2+ years) within a Heavy Industrial environment

Previous experience in a Mechanical maintenance role (2+years)

UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle

Basic understanding of Electrical Principles

Basic understanding of fluid power systems

The ability to conduct a physically demanding role, with no concerns around working with grease, scale and dust on a daily basis

Ability to be fully flexible and adhere to the shift pattern

Good verbal and written communication skills

Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation

Responsibilities:
