Job summary

GFSL is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (Steam & HTHW) for HMP The Mount, Hemel Hempstead. The role focuses on safe operation and maintenance of steam and hot water boilers, complying with Water Supply Regulations and Legionella L8.

You will join a dedicated facilities team and work alongside plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and cleaners to ensure a secure, well‑functioning environment. Salary ranges from £44,688.51 to £48,412.56 per annum for a full‑time permanent contract, with

Qualifications

• Two years' experience working in a role as a steam boiler operator or equivalent.
• Must be familiar with and able to work to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements
• Must be familiar with and able to work to BG01 - safe operation of boilers
• Experience working on commercial or industrial steam, heating and water systems
• Plumber qualified to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and heating) and NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent
• BOAS accredited boiler operator course or equivalent
• Good Health & Safety knowledge
• Excellent organisational, time management and people skills

Responsibilities

• Maintain mechanical systems including steam and hot water heating.
• Ensure compliance with Water Regulation and Legionella L8.
• Collaborate with maintenance team to ensure safe operation of plant and facilities
