Job summary

Mars is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for Melton Mowbray, part of Mars Petcare. You will maintain and improve high-speed mechanical systems across the plant, lead troubleshooting efforts, and drive downtime reductions while coaching peers.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC/HND in mechanical engineering or a related field, backed by practical experience.
• Experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments.
• Proven problem-solving skills with Root Cause Analysis and fault finding.
• Technical proficiency with Excel, PI Process Book, and SAP Planned Maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and enhance automated, electromechanical systems including refrigeration and meat processing equipment, conveyors and fluid systems.
• Diagnose breakdowns and ensure timely resolutions to reduce downtime and boost productivity.
• Lead by example as team leader and provide technical coaching to colleagues.
• Drive small-scale improvements and contribute to continuous innovation and efficiency.
• Participate in risk assessments and ensure safety standards compliance (ISO 14000, PTW, Hot Work).
• Foster clear communication between operations and technical teams.

What We're Looking For

Technical qualifications: Minimum HNC/HND in mechanical engineering or a related field, backed by practical experience

Experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments: You know how to troubleshoot and maintain complex mechanical systems.

Proven problem-solving skills: You excel at Root Cause Analysis and fault finding.

Technical proficiency: Skilled in using Microsoft Excel, PI Process Book, and SAP Planned Maintenance.

Leadership & teamwork: You thrive in a collaborative setting, with the ability to coach and inspire others.

Keep things running smoothly: Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance automated, electromechanical systems - from refrigeration systems to meat processing equipment, conveyors, and fluid systems.
