Job summary

Ashtead Technology is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join the Mechanical Solutions team. You will assemble, install and test mechanical equipment in support of offshore project delivery, working closely with supervisors and colleagues to meet deadlines.

The role requires a recognised apprenticeship and hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, reading drawings and using precision tools. Safety and quality are emphasized in a dynamic workshop environment.

Qualifications

  • Confidence using hand and power tools and measuring instruments.

Job description

Join our Mechanical Solutions team and take on a varied, hands‑on role where no two days are the same. As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll be responsible for assembling, installing and testing mechanical equipment in support of offshore project delivery.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Assemble, install and test mechanical equipment and components in line with engineering drawings, ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.
  • Operate hand and power tools confidently while maintaining quality, accuracy and efficiency throughout the build process.
  • Work closely with your Supervisor and colleagues to ensure project deadlines are achieved and customer requirements are met.
  • Identify and report any defects, damage or quality issues, ensuring they are communicated and resolved promptly.
  • Support and mentor apprentices, sharing knowledge and promoting good working practices across the team.
  • Help maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop by following 5S principles, risk assessments, permit to work systems and company HSEQ procedures.
What Experience You'll Bring
  • A recognised engineering or trade apprenticeship, with good secondary education.
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Engineering would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a mechanical assembly, manufacturing or workshop environment.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals and assembly documentation.
  • Experience assembling mechanical equipment and working with limits and fits on machined components.
  • Confidence using hand tools, power tools and heavy workshop equipment, along with measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier gauges and dial indicators.
  • Experience using manual and hydraulic bolt torquing equipment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of working with heavy machinery would be preferred.
