Job summary

Kingston Barnes Ltd in Kempston is seeking a mechanical assembly fitter to join a small team responsible for assembling and delivering pumps to meet customer timelines. You will work from engineering drawings and BOMs, using a range of tools and lifting equipment, while maintaining quality checks and safety standards.

The role requires experience in mechanical fitting/assembly, reading drawings, and working to production deadlines in a heavy engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Several years’ experience in mechanical fitting/assembly.
• Experience with rotating components like bearings/seals/turbines.
• Experience in medium to heavy mechanical engineering operations.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, follow manufacturing checklists and production instructions.
• Experience meeting production deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assemble components from engineering drawings and BOMs to meet build requirements.
• Strip/prep/terminate electrical cable and perform continuity testing.
• Use handheld, power/air tools to assemble and fit components.
• Record dimensional and quality/test paperwork accurately.
• Move items using overhead cranes and forklift trucks.
• Adhere to HSEW policies and complete tasks as required by the company.

Job description

Do you have experience doing mechanical fitting or maintenance? Can you read and interpret engineering drawings? Have you worked in a heavy engineering environment ? If so, this exciting role could be for you! Our client is an installer, servicer and repair of equipment mostly used in the waste and water industry. They are looking for a mechanical assembly fitter who will be part of a small team responsible for the assembly and output of completed pumps to meet customer delivery dates.

Role responsibilities

• To assemble various components working from engineering drawings and BOMs to produce completed assemblies in line with production schedule and build requirements.
• To carry out stripping/preparation/termination of various diameters of electrical cable and continuity testing
• Mechanically minded, with a keen eye for detail with the ability to think on their feet to resolve issues as they arise.
• Carry out general fitting/assembly operations using a variety of handheld, power/air tools with the ability to read engineering drawings and follow work instructions, check lists, visual aids.
• Recording and accurate completion of dimensional and quality/test check paperwork, time sheets etc.
• The use of overhead cranes and forklift trucks to move large and heavy items around workshop.
• The loading and unloading of vehicles as required
• Ensuring all activities/tasks are carried out in line with all company HSEW policies and procedures.
• The completion of other tasks as may be reasonably requested by the company

Requirements

• Several years’ experience working in a similar mechanical fitting/assembly environment
• Anything rotating like bearings, seals, turbine, compressors or general machinery fitting or maintenance experience
• Experience of working in a medium to heavy mechanical engineering operation
• Experience in working to production deadlines and assigned operation hours
• Experience in reading of engineering drawings, manufacturing, and quality check lists
• Experience in completion of manufacturing and check list paperwork
• Qualified Overhead Crane User (training will be given if required)
• Qualified Forklift user (training will be given if required)
• Awareness of Health & Safety responsibilities and compliance

Hours

Monday-Thursday: 08:15-16:45
Friday: 08:15-13:45

Benefits package

The role is full-time and permanent, salary range of £35,000 - £42,000 (Depending on experience).
