Job summary

A Mechanical Fitter position in Stoke-on-Trent is currently open on a temporary basis. You will repair production machinery, carry out scheduled maintenance, and diagnose mechanical faults to keep lines running smoothly.

The role requires precision, teamwork and the ability to read technical drawings, with training provided where needed. Working hours are Monday-Thursday 7:30 AM–4:00 PM and Friday 7:30 AM–1:30 PM, with an hourly rate of £20.32.

Qualifications

• Experience as Mechanical Fitter in manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read technical drawings and manuals.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Proactive and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Repair production machinery, fixtures and equipment using lathe, miller, grinder and welding techniques.
• Undertake scheduled PPM maintenance and document it.
• Respond to breakdowns with mechanical fault diagnosis.
• Assist with machine and equipment upgrades.
• Safely operate workshop machinery including lathes, millers and grinders; use forklift if required.
• Perform compliance testing and maintain clean, safe work areas.
• Maintain 5S practices and support timely reactive works.

Position Details

• Position: Mechanical Fitter
• Location: Stoke on Trent, ST4 area.
• Contract Type: Temporary
• Hourly Rate: £20.32
• Working Pattern: Full Time Monday- Thursday 7:30AM-4:00PM and Friday 7:30AM-1:30PM

About the Role

As a Mechanical Fitter with our client, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of production processes. The employer values precision and teamwork, making this position perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out repairs to production machinery, fixtures and equipment using lathe, drills, miller and grinder and by welding, brazing and soldering.
• Undertaking and documenting scheduled PPM maintenance
• Respond to all breakdowns including Mechanical fault diagnosis
• Assist with machine and equipment upgrade
• Safe use of all machinery in the workshop inclusive of Lathes, millers, surface grinding and welding equipment.
• Undertake in all relevant compliance testing
• Safe use and operation of site forklift trucks if required
• To fit grinding wheels in accordance with regulations.
• To be responsible for general housekeeping in immediate work area.
• 5s participation and ownership
• Undertake reactive works in a timely manner to deliver within the department KPIs
• Upkeep and maintain of plant room including 5s activity
• To undertake works with the use of access equipment including ladders.
• Ensure that work area is kept clean, safe and tidy always
• Must ensure that any queries are referred to the Engineering Supervisor. Major breakdowns must be reported in a timely manner.

What the Ideal Candidate Will Bring

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and their components.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
• A proactive approach to work and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to manufacture parts on a Lathe/Miller and operate general maintenance workshop machinery
• Knowledge of installing/repairing mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment
• PC literate with an understanding of Microsoft Office and engineering management system
