Job Opportunity: Mechanical Fitter

E3 Recruitment is supporting a highly respected, globally operating organization in recruiting Mechanical Fitters. We have roles available on a double day shift and permanent night shifts.

Location: HUDDERSFIELD, just 10 minutes from the M62, easily accessible from Halifax, Bradford, Leeds, Rochdale, Oldham, Manchester, Wakefield, Barnsley, Rotherham, and Sheffield.

Responsibilities:

1. Build and assemble new industrial gearboxes within a highly skilled team.
2. Work from technical drawings and instructions, ensuring high-quality workmanship.
3. Compile reports on gearbox components, record serial and cast numbers, and maintain documentation.

Candidate Requirements:

• Formal qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (Apprenticeship, HNC, HND, or similar).
• Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter in a heavy engineering environment.
• Experience working with gearboxes and rotating equipment.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain test rigs for high-tolerance marine gearboxes following established procedures.
• Set up, prepare, and connect test rigs for functional testing.
• Monitor and control test parameters like temperature, pressure, speed, and torque.
• Conduct tests, record data, and report abnormalities.
• Troubleshoot issues during testing and collaborate with engineers.
• Maintain and calibrate testing equipment.
• Assist in developing test procedures.
• Participate in installing and commissioning marine gearboxes in ships.

Working Hours:

Rotating AM/PM shifts:

• AM Shift: 40 hours/week with 18% shift allowance, Monday to Friday, 06:30-14:30.
• PM Shift: 34 hours/week with 18% shift allowance, Monday to Thursday, 14:30-22:00, and Friday, 14:30-18:30.

Night shift:

• 21:00 – 07:00, Monday to Wednesday.
• 21:00 – 06:00, Thursday.
