Partnership Recruiting is seeking an experienced Mechanical Shift Fitter for a well-established industrial site in the Fort William area. This permanent role supports a busy maintenance team with mechanical maintenance and breakdown support across production plant and machinery.

You will perform planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, and repairs, install components, and contribute to safe, reliable operations while upholding high workmanship and housekeeping standards on site.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical maintenance or as a mechanical fitter role.
• Strong fault-finding and repair skills.
• Experience with industrial plant and machinery.
• Good communication abilities.
• Familiarity with computer-based maintenance systems (CMMS).
• Good organisation and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance on production equipment.
• Diagnose faults and complete repairs to minimise downtime.
• Respond to breakdowns across production lines promptly.
• Install and replace mechanical components (chain drives, gear motors, valves, pumps).
• Perform planned maintenance inspections and pre-empt potential faults.
• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to keep equipment safe and operational.

Job description

We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Shift Fitter to join a well-established industrial business based in the Fort William area.

This is a permanent opportunity to join a busy site maintenance team, providing mechanical maintenance and breakdown support across a wide range of production plant and machinery.

Working as part of the shift maintenance team, you will play a key role in keeping the site running safely and efficiently. The position will involve a mixture of planned preventative maintenance, fault finding, repairs and responding to machinery breakdowns.

The Role

• Carrying out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across production equipment and machinery.
• Diagnosing mechanical faults and completing repairs to minimise production downtime.
• Responding promptly to breakdowns across production lines.
• Installing and replacing mechanical components including chain drives, gear motors, valves and pumps.
• Completing planned maintenance inspections and identifying potential faults before they result in breakdowns.
• Working closely with production and other maintenance personnel to ensure equipment remains safe and operational.
• Maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and housekeeping.

About You

• Previous experience in a mechanical maintenance, mechanical fitter or similar engineering role.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills.
• Experience working with industrial plant and machinery.
• A good understanding of planned and preventative maintenance.
• Good communication skills.
• Basic confidence using computer-based maintenance systems and software.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to breakdown situations.
• A strong commitment to health and safety.
