Job summary

UNITED UTILITIES GROUP PLC is seeking Field Service Engineers to perform hands-on maintenance across mechanical assets, pumps, valves, flow meters, and related equipment at Stockport Wastewater Treatment Works. The role requires flexibility, field experience, and the ability to work in confined spaces on-site.

Salary starts at £38,462 for a core skill (Electrical/Mechanical/Instrumentation) and rises to £44,320 with dual skills; full-time, permanent, 37 hours per week, with an on-call standby

Qualifications

  • Time served apprentice or equivalent, with NVQ Level 3.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Industry experience recommended.
  • Ability to work in a team and alone, including confined spaces.
  • Willingness to specialise into areas such as chlorine gas systems.
  • Good diagnostic, organisational, planning, communication and computer skills.

  • Implement an efficient mechanical maintenance and installation service.
  • Analyse faults, rectify and ensure correct operation of mechanical systems-based equipment.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and company policies.

Job description

Are you ready to put your mechanical expertise to work where it truly makes a difference? We're looking for Field Service Engineers who can help us drive efficiency and reduce costs across our operations. In this role, you'll take on hands‑on tasks such as like-for-like replacements of pumps, mixers, valves, flow meters, pipework, and electrical actuators, as well as tank repairs and asset decommissioning.

This is a hands‑on, multi-skilled role that demands flexibility, the ability to work independently, and readiness to operate in confined spaces. You'll also contribute to both capital and operational projects, ensuring mechanical assets are designed, installed, and maintained to meet performance and reliability standards. Participation in an out-of-hours standby rota is part of the role.

If you're bringing one core skill to us (Electrical/Mechanical/Instrumentation) you'll start on a salary of £38,462, but if you've got both disciplines, you'll earn £44,320.
