Job summary

Romans Recruitment Group Ltd is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our construction and facilities team in Newcastle upon Tyne. You will produce accurate estimates, manage tender processes from enquiry to submission, and help secure profitable work across a varied project portfolio.

The role offers a salary of £50,000 plus a £5,500 car allowance and a benefits package, with Monday-to-Friday full-time hours and long-term career progression.

Qualifications

• Mechanical estimating experience within construction, building services or facilities management.
• Strong understanding of tendering procedures, contract documents and cost planning.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Experience obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Highly organised with ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and estimating software.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full tendering process from initial enquiry through to final submission, acting as the main point of contact between the business, clients and professional teams.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation to prepare accurate cost plans, take-offs, Bills of Quantities and detailed estimates.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, ensuring competitive pricing and compliance with project requirements.
• Develop labour, plant and material rates while identifying risks, opportunities, value engineering options and cost-saving initiatives.
• Coordinate with internal and external design teams to ensure designs are sufficiently developed for accurate pricing and successful tender submissions.
• Produce tender reports and presentations for internal approval and client submission.
• Support commercial activities including cost analysis, project valuations, variation pricing, final accounts and contractual claims where required.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, quality standards, health and safety requirements, and industry best practice.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying efficiencies, supporting teamwork and maintaining high standards of customer service.

The Role
