Job summary

ARC Group is partnering with a well-established Building Services contractor in Cambridge to recruit an Intermediate Mechanical Estimator.

You will produce tenders for Mechanical Building Services projects, analyse drawings and specifications, engage suppliers, price accurately, and present to management.

This permanent, full-time role offers £40,000-£50,000, £5,500 car allowance, private healthcare, company pension, 25 days leave, and strong career progression.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years' experience in Mechanical Estimator role.
• Understanding of Mechanical Building Services.
• Experience pricing projects in M&E sector.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Proficient with Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tender deadlines.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Review tender documentation, drawings and specifications.
• Complete mechanical take-offs and prepare cost estimates.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare cost comparison schedules to support tender adjudications.
• Raise RFIs during the tender period.
• Assist with design development to ensure compliant tender submissions.
• Produce value engineering options and alternative cost proposals.
• Present tender information to senior management during adjudication meetings.
• Support handover of successful tenders to project delivery teams.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and clients.

ARC is proud to be working in partnership with a well-established and highly regarded Building Services contractor to recruit an Intermediate Mechanical Estimator for their expanding Cambridge office.

The Role

As a Mechanical Estimator, you will play a key role within the pre-construction team, producing accurate and competitive tenders for a wide range of Mechanical Building Services projects. Working alongside experienced estimators and senior management, you'll be involved throughout the tender process, from analysing drawings and specifications through to supplier engagement, pricing and tender submissions.

This role offers genuine career progression, making it ideal for an estimator with a couple of years' experience looking to take the next step.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret tender documentation, drawings and specifications.
• Complete mechanical take-offs and prepare accurate cost estimates.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare detailed cost comparison schedules to support tender adjudications.
• Raise technical queries and Requests for Information (RFIs) throughout the tender period.
• Assist with design development where required to ensure compliant tender submissions.
• Produce value engineering options and alternative cost proposals.
• Present tender information to senior management during adjudication meetings.
• Support the smooth handover of successful tenders to project delivery teams.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and clients.

About You

We are looking for someone with a solid foundation in Mechanical Estimating who is looking to develop their career with an established contractor.

Ideally, you'll have:

• At least 2 years' experience within a Mechanical Estimator role.
• A good understanding of Mechanical Building Services.
• Experience pricing projects within the M&E or Building Services sector.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to manage multiple tender deadlines.
• A proactive and organised approach to your work.
• Strong team-working skills alongside the ability to work independently.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
