My client is a leading mechanical building services contractor delivering high-quality mechanical installations across the commercial, industrial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, education, residential and data centre sectors.
With a reputation for delivering technically challenging projects safely, on time and to the highest quality standards, my client offers a complete mechanical service including HVAC, plumbing, heating, ventilation, public health, pipework, renewable technologies, prefabrication, commissioning and maintenance.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, my client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join their expanding Pre-Construction team in Coventry.
The Opportunity
This is an outstanding opportunity to join an established Building Services contractor where you will play a pivotal role in securing major mechanical projects across the UK.
Working closely with the Commercial, Design and Operational teams, you will prepare accurate and competitive tenders while identifying innovative and cost-effective solutions for clients across a variety of sectors.
This role would suit an ambitious Mechanical Estimator looking to further their career within a business that genuinely invests in its people and offers long-term progression into senior estimating or commercial management positions.

Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate and commercially competitive mechanical estimates from first principles.
- Review tender documentation including drawings, specifications, schedules and employer requirements.
- Complete detailed quantity take-offs for all mechanical building services installations.
- Prepare comprehensive cost plans covering labour, materials, plant and subcontractor packages.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
- Ensure all quotations are technically compliant and commercially competitive.
- Develop value engineering proposals to improve project competitiveness without compromising quality.
- Attend pre-tender, tender clarification and post-tender meetings with clients and consultants.
- Liaise with internal Design, Commercial and Project Delivery teams throughout the bid process.
- Prepare detailed tender adjudication reports for senior management approval.
- Assist with procurement strategies where required.
- Maintain supplier relationships and negotiate best-value pricing.
- Monitor market trends and material price fluctuations.
- Support project handovers to operational delivery teams following contract award.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and historical cost databases.
- Ensure all tender submissions are completed within required deadlines.

Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within Building Services or M&E contracting.
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services installations.
- Experience pricing projects from first principles.
- Excellent understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and numerical ability.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or similar.
- Experience using estimating software such as Trimble Estimation, Ensign, Cypher, Estimation or similar.
- Knowledge of BIM processes.
- Understanding of NEC and JCT contracts.
- Previous experience pricing projects within pharmaceutical, healthcare, industrial or data centre environments.
- Knowledge of off-site manufacturing and prefabrication techniques.
