Job summary

PipeWize Ltd is seeking an Experienced Mechanical Estimation Specialist in Greater London to prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical installation, piping and welding projects. You will review drawings, P&IDs, BOQs and specifications while carrying out MTOs and cost breakdowns.

The role involves liaising with engineering, procurement and commercial teams to develop accurate estimates, evaluate supplier quotes and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical estimating for industrial construction projects.
• Ability to interpret drawings, P&IDs, isometrics and specs.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with estimation software.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of UK mechanical construction standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and competitive quotations for mechanical installation, piping, fabrication and welding projects.
• Review tender documentation, technical specifications, engineering drawings, P&IDs and BOQs.
• Carry out material take-offs (MTOs) and calculate labour, equipment, material and subcontractor costs.
• Prepare tender submissions, pricing schedules and commercial proposals.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Liaise with engineering, procurement, project management and commercial teams to develop accurate estimates.
• Assess project risks, identify cost-saving opportunities and propose value engineering solutions.
• Maintain and update estimation databases, cost benchmarks and historical pricing records.
• Support tender clarifications, commercial negotiations and project handovers.

About Pipewize Ltd

Pipewize Ltd is a UK-based mechanical engineering contractor delivering specialist mechanical installation, piping, fabrication, welding and industrial construction services across major infrastructure, energy and industrial projects.

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimation Specialist to join our growing team and support the preparation of competitive and accurate cost estimates for mechanical engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and competitive quotations for mechanical installation, piping, fabrication and welding projects.
• Review tender documentation, technical specifications, engineering drawings, P&IDs and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Carry out material take-offs (MTOs) and calculate labour, equipment, material and subcontractor costs.
• Prepare tender submissions, pricing schedules and commercial proposals.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Liaise with engineering, procurement, project management and commercial teams to develop accurate estimates.
• Assess project risks, identify cost-saving opportunities and propose value engineering solutions.

Requirements

• Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within industrial construction, piping, fabrication or mechanical installation projects.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, isometric drawings and technical specifications.
• Good knowledge of mechanical materials, labour productivity and construction methods.
• Experience preparing BOQs, material take-offs and detailed cost breakdowns.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with estimation software.
• Good communication, analytical and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and work to deadlines.
• Experience in energy, power generation, petrochemical, manufacturing or major infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of UK mechanical construction standards and commercial practices.
• Familiarity with NEC or other construction contracts.
• Experience estimating pipework, coded welding, mechanical equipment installation and associated site works.
