We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Project and SME Engineer to join the team at our Linford Block Plant, near Stanford-le-Hope in Essex. This role is accessible from Maidstone, Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham, Hempstead, Sevenoaks, Orpington, Swanley, Dartford, Bromley, Tonbridge, Gravesend, Rainham, Sittingbourne, Dunton Green, and surrounding areas.

Our Linford Plant manufactures sustainable, durable, energy-efficient aerated blocks used in homes and workplaces, making our products a common sight around us.

Role Responsibilities

As our Mechanical Project and SME Engineer, your main duties include executing maintenance strategies to maximize mechanical equipment efficiency, supporting the implementation of World Class Maintenance at Linford, troubleshooting, improving systems, and supporting project engineering activities.

Your responsibilities (not exhaustive) include:

1. Leading the 1-year rolling and 3-5 year improvement plans for assets
2. Implementing Written Schemes of Examination, assessing equipment condition, and reporting compliance status
3. Recommending repairs, advising on restoration, and setting inspection intervals for legal and business compliance
4. Owning and leading risk-based assessments for mechanical systems
5. Providing technical input for projects and modifications to ensure legal and operational standards
6. Managing change practices for modifications, upgrades, or projects involving mechanical systems
7. Conducting routine maintenance and collaborating with teams to enhance system performance
8. Managing engineering operations, delivering CAPEX projects, and understanding CDM regulations
9. Promoting maintenance management systems and best practices
10. Assisting in achieving departmental budget targets through efficient resource use
11. Training and developing engineers, fitters, and apprentices in mechanical systems
12. Maintaining health and safety standards, ensuring compliance with safe systems of work
13. Reviewing plant availability, identifying gaps, root causes, and proposing improvements
14. Monitoring condition predictors for critical equipment using NDT or condition monitoring systems
15. Evaluating and updating preventive maintenance plans in coordination with planning teams
16. Leading root cause analysis for plant failures and implementing corrective actions

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical gears and bearings, compressed air, and related plant, ideally within manufacturing, maintenance, or site inspection environments.

Qualifications / Requirements / Capabilities:

1. BEng or MEng in a related discipline, or QBE (Qualified by Experience)
2. Strong technical knowledge of mechanical equipment and heavy industrial plant
3. Experience with preventive, predictive, and systematic maintenance, including databases, CMMS, and project software
