Job summary

Pioneer Selection is looking for a Mechanical Engineer for a leading food manufacturing business in Eye, Suffolk. The role offers a salary of £35,000 to £50,000 depending on experience, with a rotational shift pattern. You will be part of a three-person technical team responsible for maintenance and efficiency of production machinery.

Ideal candidates will have a strong mechanical background, electrical fault-finding abilities, and qualifications in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering. Additional benefits include ongoing training, a £250 tool allowance, and life insurance.

Job Overview

Mechanical Engineer at a leading UK food manufacturing business located in Eye, Suffolk.

Salary £35,000 – £50,000 dependent on experience. Rotational shift pattern (days & nights – Panama shift system).

Responsibilities

Work as part of a three‑person technical team, reporting to the Engineering Supervisor and also working independently when required.

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on a wide range of production machinery to ensure minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency.

Handle equipment including cutters, plucking machines, metal detectors, labelling machines, conveyors, packaging equipment, flow wrappers and check weighers.

Requirements

Non‑negotiable:

• Strong mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to carry out both electrical and mechanical fault finding
• Mechanical qualification

Desirable:

• Level 3 qualification (Apprenticeship, BTEC or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering)
• Experience working in high‑volume food production environments
• Strong multi‑skilled engineering background (mechanical bias preferred but not essential)
