Job summary

Randstad CPE in Eye, Suffolk, is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to keep heavy production lines running at peak performance. The role focuses on proactive maintenance and rapid breakdown response, with an electrical bias welcome.

You will work Panama shift, 12-hour days and nights, 2 weeks on/off, and be part of a site engineering team offering development opportunities and a contributory pension.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Strong mechanical aptitude including hydraulics, pneumatics, and gearboxes.
• Cross-skilled engineers with electrical background encouraged to apply.
• Experience in manufacturing, production, or heavy industrial settings.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on heavy/automated production machinery and plant equipment.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Perform mechanical repairs including bearings, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, and drive systems.
• Support minor electrical repairs when competent to do so.
• Assist with equipment installations and site modifications.
• Maintain logs of maintenance activities in the internal system.

Shift Pattern: Panama Shift - 2 weeks Days (8am - 8pm) / 2 weeks Nights (8pm - 8am)

Salary: £51,000

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our site engineering team in Eye, Suffolk.

In this role, you will keep production lines running at peak performance through proactive planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and rapid breakdown response. While the position is mechanically focused, we welcome applications from electrically biased candidates who possess strong mechanical skills.

Shift Structure

This position operates on a Panama shift pattern working 12-hour shifts (8:00 AM - 8:00 PM / 8:00 PM - 8:00 AM):

• 2 Weeks Days / 2 Weeks Nights
• Enjoy predictable working hours with built-in time off every other weekend.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on heavy/automated production machinery and plant equipment.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Perform mechanical repairs including bearings, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, and drive systems.
• Support minor electrical repairs and isolation where competent to do so.
• Assist with equipment installations, continuous improvement projects, and site modifications.
• Maintain clear logs of maintenance activities using our internal maintenance system.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

• Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent C&G / ONC / Apprenticeship) in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• Skill Set: Strong mechanical aptitude (hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission, gearboxes, alignment).
• Cross-Skilled Candidates: Electrically qualified engineers with proven hands‑on mechanical competence are encouraged to apply.
• Experience: Previous experience working within a manufacturing, production, or heavy industrial setting.
• Shift Readiness: Fully comfortable working a rotating Panama day/night shift structure.
