Job summary

QinetiQ Group plc in Shoeburyness is seeking a Mechanical and Electrical Technician to maintain the Environmental Test Centre facilities. You will diagnose faults, perform calibrations, and oversee contractor work to minimise downtime.

The role requires HV testing qualification, mechanical engineering experience, ability to work in a team, a full UK driving licence, and IT skills; training and growth opportunities are available within the defence technology environment.

Qualifications

• Experience of engineering and electrical fault fixing.
• Qualified to carry out high voltage equipment testing (10KV).
• Previous experience working in Mechanical Engineering.
• The ability to work within a team environment.
• A full UK Drivers Licence.
• Proficient with IT and basic software such as Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing and triaging faults, resolving issues quickly where possible and escalating specialist requirements.
• Applying technical expertise to restore equipment to safe working condition and maintain trial activity.
• Supporting Engineering Leads to maximise facility uptime and return services to operation efficiently.
• Overseeing contractor work, maintenance shutdowns and inspections to ensure compliance and minimise downtime.
• Leading calibration activities including in-house calibrations, PAT testing and coordination of external support.
• Supporting equipment upgrades and lifecycle management, including commissioning, SAP implementation, spares strategy and engineering ownership of bespoke assets.
