Job summary

QinetiQ Shoeburyness is seeking a Mechanical and Electrical Technician to maintain and support the Environmental Test Centre’s testing facilities on-site. You’ll diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and keep equipment running to support timely trial activity.

Working in a collaborative environment, you’ll assist with calibrations, controls, and upgrades while ensuring compliance and safety. The role is permanent, full-time, based at Shoeburyness with a competitive salary of £37,575–£41,750 plus

Qualifications

• Experience of engineering and electrical fault fixing.
• Qualified to carry out high voltage equipment testing (10KV).
• Previous experience working in Mechanical Engineering.
• The ability to work within a team environment.
• A full UK Drivers Licence.
• Proficient with IT and basic software such as Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing and triaging faults, resolving issues quickly where possible and escalating specialist requirements
• Applying technical expertise to restore equipment to safe working condition and maintain trial activity
• Supporting Engineering Leads to maximise facility uptime and return services to operation efficiently
• Overseeing contractor work, maintenance shutdowns and inspections to ensure compliance and minimise downtime
• Leading calibration activities including in-house calibrations, PAT testing and coordination of external support
• Supporting equipment upgrades and lifecycle management, including commissioning, SAP implementation, spares strategy and engineering ownership of bespoke assets

The Role

As a Mechanical and Electrical Technician, we are looking for a positive and proactive individual to carry out the maintenance of the testing facilities at QinetiQ’s Environmental Test Centre in Shoeburyness.

Day-to-day, you’ll be involved in fixing and maintaining a wide range of equipment, machinery and systems resolving issues quickly and efficiently through applying personal practical skills to fix it.

Your responsibilities will include:
