Job summary

SII UK is seeking an experienced Mechanical Draftsperson to support its Hardware Engineering function, delivering high-quality mechanical drawings that meet BS 8888 and customer specs. You will collaborate with Mechanical Design Engineers to ensure accuracy, clarity, and proper tolerancing in all drawings.

Key responsibilities include producing 2D drawings from 3D models, reviewing peers' drawings for compliance, and guiding GD&T application across projects while maintaining strict document

Qualifications

• Strong drafting/draughting experience in mechanical engineering.
• Excellent understanding of BS 8888.
• Strong grasp of GD&T and tolerancing.
• Experience with datum structures, feature control frames and MMC/LMC.
• Ability to review and interpret complex drawings.

Responsibilities

• Produce and support high-quality 2D mechanical drawings from 3D CAD models.

Job description

We are looking for experienced Mechanical Draftsperson to support a Hardware Engineering function in the delivery of cross-functional engineering projects.

The role will focus on producing and reviewing high-quality mechanical engineering drawings, ensuring documentation meets BS 8888, internal quality requirements and applicable customer specifications.

You will work closely with Mechanical Design Engineers to ensure drawings are accurate, clearly presented, correctly toleranced and appropriately controlled.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce and support the creation of high-quality 2D mechanical engineering drawings from 3D CAD models.
• Review drawings produced by Mechanical Design Engineers for accuracy, clarity and compliance.
• Ensure mechanical drawings comply with BS 8888.
• Review drawing layouts, views, dimensioning, tolerancing and general drafting conventions.
• Review and challenge GD&T, datum structures and tolerancing approaches.
• Ensure appropriate use of feature control frames, geometric tolerances and MMC/LMC, where applicable.
• Ensure drawing revisions, title blocks, document control and traceability information are correct.
• Check drawings against internal QA requirements and applicable customer specifications.
• Provide technical guidance to engineering teams on the application of GD&T and BS 8888.
• Support engineers in developing appropriate tolerance strategies.
• Maintain strong CAD knowledge to investigate drawing or CAD-related issues.
• Develop and continuously improve mechanical drawing and documentation best-practice guidelines.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong mechanical engineering drafting/draughting experience.
• Excellent understanding and practical application of BS 8888.
• Strong understanding of GD&T and engineering tolerancing.
• Experience with datum structures, feature control frames, geometric tolerances and material conditions such as MMC/LMC.
• Experience producing detailed 2D engineering drawings from 3D CAD models.
• Strong CAD proficiency.
• Understanding of drawing revision control, document control and traceability.
• Ability to review and interpret complex mechanical engineering drawings.
• Experience working closely with Mechanical Design Engineers and other engineering stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing quality and consistency.
