Job summary

Edina in Manchester is seeking a Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of energy projects, delivering megawatt-capable solutions and driving high energy efficiency.

You will produce detailed engineering documentation for CHP, Tri-Generation and Battery Energy Storage System installations, coordinate CAD activities, and perform safety assessments to ensure compliant, timely delivery across projects.

Qualifications

• HNC/D or degree in mechanical engineering (power generation).
• Minimum five years' experience in technical management and development of Energy Projects.
• Experience in power generation, pipework and ventilation design, CDM and health & safety.
• Proficient in IT skills and Microsoft Office; experience using AutoCAD 3D or equivalent.
• Hold a full, current driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of energy projects.
• Produce megawatt-capable products to improve energy efficiency and utilisation.
• Create detailed engineering documentation for CHP, Tri Generation and BESS installations from concept to commissioning.
• Generate specifications, PFDs, P&IDs and design documents; oversee mechanical design activities.
• Perform safety assessments, pipe and pump sizing calculations; coordinate CAD activities.
• Liaise with project managers, suppliers and clients.
• Assist with budgeting and cost-effective design delivery.
• Manage supplier performance and sign off per project quality plans.
• Provide on-site technical support including layout surveys and troubleshooting.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer, you will lead the mechanical design of our energy projects.

You will be helping to create some of the most innovative and sophisticated energy solutions available, producing megawatt-capable products that save on energy costs and deliver energy utilisation of up to 95%.

Producing detailed engineering documentation, you will support the successful delivery of Combined Heat and Power (CHP), Tri Generation, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installations from initial concept through to commissioning and operation.

Working closely with the Design Manager, you will generate specifications, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and functional and technical design documents, and oversee the design of mechanical systems.

You will also perform safety assessments, carry out pipe and pump sizing calculations, and co-ordinate CAD design activities to ensure quality and timely delivery.

Additionally, you will:

• Liaise with project managers, suppliers, and clients
• Assist with project budgeting and cost-effective design delivery
• Manage supplier performance and sign off in line with project quality plans
• Provide on-site technical support, including layout surveys and troubleshooting

About You

To be considered as a Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer, you will need:

• To hold a minimum qualification of HNC/D or be degree qualified in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with a focus on power generation
• To have a minimum of five years' experience in successful technical management and development of Energy Projects
• To be a competent Mechanical Engineer with experience in power generation, pipework, and ventilation design, CDM and health & safety
• To have effective IT skills and be competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages and experience using AutoCAD 3D or equivalent
• To hold a full, current driving licence

Hours of work: Monday - Thursday, 8.30am - 5.00pm and Friday, 8.30am - 4.00pm.
