Job summary

The Focusrite Group offers a 12-month Mechanical Design placement based at High Wycombe. You will join the Mechanical Design team to support product development, CAD modelling, prototyping and BOM management, with on-site technicians aiding workshop activities.

You will use Creo Parametric with exposure to Windchill PLM, and may work with SolidWorks or Fusion 360 as needed. The role includes full-time hours and a structured learning path within manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Owns CAD modelling and 3D CAD drafting knowledge.
  • Experience with design engineering and product development ideal.
  • Experience with prototyping, testing, and BOM/change management is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Work on new design projects and support existing products.
  • Model in Creo Parametric and create 2D drawings.
  • Maintain Bills of Materials in Windchill and participate in change processes.
  • Prototype with in-house 3D printing and workshop tools.

Job description

Mechanical Design Placement - Martin Audio

Based: High Wycombe

Type: Full-time, 12 month placement

Salary: £26250 pa

The Role:

We are looking for a placement student to fulfil the role of Student Mechanical Design Engineer within the Mechanical Design Team.

This placement would suit a student looking to gain experience within Product Development and Manufacturing. With suitable support, you will participate in the day-to-day activities of the team. This will involve, CAD Modelling/Drafting, Prototyping, Testing, Documentation, Bills of Materials and Change Management.

Typical degree courses would include: CAD based Design/Engineering courses, such as Design Engineering, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering.

Main functions:
  • You will be assigned project work by the Mechanical Desing Manager comprising new design projects and projects to support the manufacture of existing products.
  • You will use Creo Parametric for 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting software as your main design tool. Experience of this specific software is not essential, some experience of 3D CAD modelling software (such as Solidworks or Fusion 360) is required.
  • You will use Windchill PLM software to create and maintain Bills of Materials and participate in the companies Change Management process.
  • Prototype project work using in-house 3D printing, CNC routing, and various workshop tools (with support of on-site technicians).
  • Testing of prototypes to ensure compliance with various standards (with support of on-site technicians).
  • Assist the Production Engineering team with the design and manufacture of jigs and fixtures.
Job Conditions:

You are expected to work at the company head office in High Wycombe on a full-time basis 37.5 hours per week, over the standard working hours of 8.45am to 5.30pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.45pm to 4pm on Friday. An hour is allowed for lunch Monday to Thursday and 45 minutes on Friday.

You will report to the Mechanical Design Manager.
