Job summary

CIBSE Journal is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the chassis team in the UK. The role focuses on taking concepts through to production with a background in design for manufacture and heavy fabrications.

The successful candidate will work across cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineered solutions. Key requirements include 2+ years in mechanical design, proficiency in CAD (Solid Edge), and knowledge of BS8888 drawing standards.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND/Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering (essential).
• 2+ years industry experience in mechanical design, ideally within automotive or related sectors.
• Proficient in CAD (Solid Edge) and BS8888 drawing standards; BOM creation.

Responsibilities

Overview: We re recruiting on behalf of a client for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Chassis' Team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop innovative concepts and design the next generation of market–leading products, supporting the team from concept through to production.

We're looking for someone witha background in design for manufacture/ heavy fabrications design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, engineer, and validate new systems and components from concept to production.
• Communicate design requirements clearly to internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Support product launches and provide engineering assistance to resolve production and field issues.
• Investigate service issues, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions.
• Work collaboratively within a cross–functional team, maintaining high standards of quality and attention to detail.

Person Profile / Requirements:

Qualifications:

• HNC/HND/Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (essential).
• M/BEng or Chartered Engineer (desirable).

Experience & Skills:

• 2+ years industry experience in mechanical design, ideally within automotive or related sectors.
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals including stress, strain, fatigue, material specifications, and design methodology.
• Experience with manufacturing processes, design for manufacture & assembly, and problem–solving.
• Proficient in CAD (ideally Solid Edge), BS8888 drawing standards, and BOM creation.
