Job summary

Additional Resources in Saltash is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop specialist machinery for the composites industry, supporting projects from concept to build, testing and commissioning. You will work with Autodesk Inventor, Rhino and AutoCAD, contribute to feasibility studies, and assist with training and client support on-site and at client sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering or a related field.
• Knowledge of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with complex design projects from concept through production.
• Familiarity with 3D/2D CAD tools (Inventor, Rhino, AutoCAD).
• Understanding of document management systems and project management tools.
• Ability to interpret technical information for engineering design.

Responsibilities

• Researching and developing design concepts, technical drawings and specifications using appropriate software.
• Identifying engineering solutions and recommending designs to meet project and client requirements.
• Maintaining technical drawings, creating part numbers and updating the MRP system.
• Preparing supporting technical documentation and drawings for feasibility assessments and cost estimates.
• Providing practical support during equipment assembly, fault-finding, testing and commissioning at in-house and client sites.
• Delivering technical training to clients' engineers and operators, alongside telephone and email support.
• Advising clients on technical equipment enquiries and product development, while keeping up to date with emerging technologies.

Job description

An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an engineering business developing advanced machinery and automated manufacturing solutions for the composites industry.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will design and develop specialist machinery, supporting projects from initial concepts through to equipment build, testing and commissioning.

This full-time role based in Saltash offers salary range of £35,000 - £40,000 and benefits. You should be based within commuting distance of the Saltash office and be willing to undertake UK and international travel as required

Previous experience in the composites industry is not essential, as training will be provided on the relevant technology and processes.

• Researching and developing design concepts, technical drawings and specifications using appropriate software.
• Identifying engineering solutions and recommending designs to meet project and client requirements.
• Maintaining technical drawings, creating part numbers and updating the MRP system.
• Preparing supporting technical documentation and drawings for feasibility assessments and cost estimates.

What we are looking for:

Essential:

• A relevant engineering degree.
• Familiarity with mechanical design engineering principles.
• Background in working on varied and complex design projects, from initial concept through to production.
• Skilled in 3D Autodesk Inventor, Rhino and 2D AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of equipment manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and testing.
• Understanding of document management systems and experience using project management tools and techniques.
• Ability to interpret technical information and data for engineering design projects.
• Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office and general database systems.
• A valid driving licence and passport.

Desirable:

• Approx 2-3 years’ experience in commercial or industrial design experience.
• Practical knowledge and experience of closed-mould composite processing
• Familiarity with design tools, techniques and methods used within the closed-mould composites sector.
