Job summary

Recruit Engineering in the United Kingdom is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Lvl 3) to take designs from concept through to manufacture, installation and sign-off. You will work with multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers while delivering innovative solutions.

The role covers design calculations, detailed drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation across multiple projects, with involvement in bids, site surveys, and client presentations.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Proven mechanical design experience in engineering/manufacturing/project environments.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes and product development.
• Proficient in 3D CAD (Inventor/AutoCAD/SolidWorks or similar) and producing drawings.
• Knowledge of engineering calculations and analysis methods, including FEA.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to manage workload across multiple concurrent projects.
• Commitment to CPD and industry best practice.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical design solutions across multiple projects with minimal supervision.
• Apply advanced engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges.
• Own significant project elements and smaller standalone projects.
• Carry out design calculations using hand calculations, spreadsheets, FEA and specialist software.
• Produce and review detailed drawings, specifications and BOMs.
• Support bids and proposals, including concept development, technical assessments and cost estimation.
• Run client requirement reviews, design studies and feasibility assessments.
• Join site surveys, technical meetings and client presentations.
• Support project management with technical queries and installation considerations.
• Prepare technical documentation, compliance packs, operating manuals and acceptance documentation.
• Assist with FAT and SAT.
• Support manufacturing through production and assembly.
• Provide technical support for existing equipment and legacy systems.
• Improve engineering processes, products and documentation, researching emerging technologies.
• Maintain quality and safety standards across all activity.
• Mentor junior engineers and support recruitment.

Our client is an established engineering and technology business with a growing design team. They're looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to work on technically challenging projects, taking designs from concept through to manufacture, installation and final sign-off.

You’ll play a key role in delivering innovative engineering solutions, working with multidisciplinary teams and helping develop junior engineers.

What you’ll be doing

• Delivering mechanical design solutions across multiple projects with minimal supervision

What you’ll bring

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Proven mechanical design experience in an engineering, manufacturing or project-based environment
• A strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes and product development
• Proficiency in 3D CAD, such as Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
• Knowledge of engineering calculations and analysis methods, including FEA
