Job summary

Recruit Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Suffolk/East Anglia to contribute from concept through manufacture, installation and client acceptance. You’ll work with experienced engineers to deliver bespoke mechanical solutions and develop technical and project management skills within a collaborative environment.

Applicants should have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, strong CAD skills (Inventor/SolidWorks/Creo/Siemens NX/AutoCAD) and experience across the engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, or engineering project environments.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, Siemens NX, AutoCAD) and understanding of drawings, manufacturing methods and design principles.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams and with clients.
• Experience supporting projects through multiple phases of the engineering lifecycle.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and engineering best practice.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of mechanical design projects while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop practical and innovative design solutions.
• Assist with the design and development of products and systems throughout the project lifecycle.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, engineering trends, and industry best practices.
• Support improvements to engineering processes, products, and documentation.
• Take ownership of project elements and smaller projects under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Assist in resolving technical challenges through engineering analysis and problem-solving.
• Contribute to tender and bid activities, including concept generation, risk assessments, cost estimates, and scheduling.
• Produce and review engineering drawings, models, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Support concept development, detailed design, design reviews, and production release activities.
• Create visualisations and design presentations to support internal reviews and client approvals.
• Participate in site surveys, client meetings, and project coordination activities where required.
• Assist with technical documentation, compliance records, operating manuals, and project handover documentation.
• Support manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and FAT activities.
• Provide engineering support for existing products and legacy equipment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Support and mentor junior team members where appropriate.
