Job summary

Bennett and Game Recruitment LTD is seeking a Mechanical Design & Development Engineer in Ipswich to design and develop industrial machinery from concept through to manufacture and testing, combining 3D CAD with practical workshop engineering. You will produce manufacturing drawings and BOMs, prototype equipment, and work with customers and production teams to implement improvements, with travel as needed.

The ideal candidate has a Mechanical Engineering qualification and extensive experience

Qualifications

• Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years' experience designing and developing industrial equipment (or exceptional candidates with fewer years).
• Proficient in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360).
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
• Strong DFMA understanding; fabrication and machining experience.
• Practical workshop experience in assembly, testing and modification.
• Good communication with customers, suppliers and production teams; holds a UK driving licence.

The Mechanical Design & Development Engineer position is required in IPSWICH for our client operating within the manufacturing industry. This role offers the opportunity to design and develop industrial machinery and special-purpose equipment from initial concept through to manufacture, assembly and testing. The engineer will combine 3D CAD design with practical workshop engineering, producing manufacturing drawings and BOMs, developing prototypes, resolving engineering issues and continually improving equipment performance, reliability and manufacturability.

Mechanical Design & Development Engineer Job Overview

• Designing industrial machinery, mechanical systems and fabricated assemblies using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 or equivalent
• Developing new products and equipment from initial concept through to production
• Producing detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly documentation and Bills of Materials
• Designing equipment with manufacturability, reliability, serviceability and cost-effectiveness in mind

Mechanical Design & Development Engineer Job Requirements

• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Typically 10 years or more experience designing and developing industrial equipment, machinery or special-purpose machinery, although exceptional candidates with fewer years of experience will be considered
• Strong experience using modern 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 or equivalent
• Extensive experience producing manufacturing drawings, Bills of Materials and engineering documentation
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
• Experience with stainless steel fabrication, welded assemblies, sheet metal design and machined components
• Practical workshop experience involving mechanical assembly, fitting, testing and modification of equipment
• Excellent mechanical problem-solving and engineering troubleshooting ability
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes and the practical requirements of taking designs through to finished machinery
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to work with customers, suppliers and production teams
• Full UK driving licence
