Job summary

Mansell Recruitment Group is seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to develop concepts through to detailed designs using SolidWorks. You will work with manufacturing, production, operations and project teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective for manufacture and assembly.

The role supports new product development, drives improvements in existing designs, and applies DFM and DFA principles to enhance efficiency and quality across engineering and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Understanding of mechanical design principles, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of design for manufacture and design for assembly.
• FEA knowledge would be advantageous.
• Experience taking designs from brief to completion.
• Strong problem-solving and methodical engineering approach.
• Good written and verbal communication, able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Take designs from initial concept through to detailed design and completion.
• Collaborate with engineering colleagues on mechanical, electrical and automation projects.
• Support project planning, customer liaison and cross-department coordination to meet milestones.
• Contribute to new product development and existing design improvements.
• Apply DFM and DFA principles to improve efficiency and manufacturability.
• Assess manufacturing feasibility and overall costs; identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Develop and maintain clear technical documentation, including assembly and installation instructions.
• Work with manufacturing teams to resolve design-related issues; liaise with suppliers and customers when needed.
