Overview

First Military Recruitment is currently seeking a Design Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.

Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Designs, verifies, prepares, and maintains detailed technical design drawings, schematics, or specifications using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (currently Creo) and Microsoft software packages (Excel, Word, etc.) ready for manufacture.
2. Prepares Manufacturing & Process Instructions as required for new products.
3. Resolves manufacturing issues in the early stages of product design and development.
4. Works closely with design briefs to resolve design details or discrepancies, or to prepare drawings of unusual, complex, or original designs which require a high degree of precision using CAD or CAE equipment.
5. Maintains a good understanding of current and emerging manufacturing methods.
6. Interfaces with internal and external customers during the design process as necessary.
7. Ensures products are developed to achieve compliance with design objectives.
8. Provides a formal handover of the designed product to the Manufacturing Process Engineering group via pre-production process and design reviews.

Skills and Qualifications:

1. Minimum BEng qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a Scientific subject.
2. Currently working towards or holding Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status and membership of a Professional Engineering Institution.
3. At least 3 years of Design Engineering experience, preferably in the Automotive or Aerospace manufacturing industry.
4. Experience using CREO or similar 3D CAD and product lifecycle management software.
5. Experience in design for manufacture and design for assembly.
6. Mechanical bias knowledge with some electrical familiarity.
7. Good understanding of GD&T and creation of detailed and manufacturing drawings to BS8888 or similar standards.
8. Understanding of the design development process, including risk assessment, DFMEA, DFM/A (design for manufacture and assembly).
9. Understanding of manufacturing processes and tolerances.

Location: Whitstable, Kent

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 Per Annum
